Cleaning could be fun too! Propagating the message 'Clean Indore Healthy Indore', the young brigade of Abha Chaitanya Welfare Society, with brooms in hand, set out on Indore streets grooving to Harlem Shake near MY Hospital on Tuesday.
Explaining the concept, one of the members of the group said, "Harlem Shake is an Internet meme in the form of a video in which a group of people perform a comedy sketch accompanied by a short excerpt from the song "Harlem Shake."
The drive began at 11.30am and continued till 1pm. Inspired by the act, other youngsters joined in gradually. The members had brought their own personal brooms for the task. The music playing on the spot kept their energy level soaring. "The idea is to clean streets while having fun. We will be posting the video on the web, the concept being one of its kind," said Pranjal Vashishth, a member of the group.
Stressing upon the need to create awareness about cleanliness among youth, Abha Gupta said, "I feel, somewhere the municipality is responsible for not collecting waste, which is consumed by stray cattle and in turn become fatal."
However, putting the equal blame on public, Amogh Agrawal of the welfare society recounted the other practical difficulties caused by waste dumped on roads.
"Where there is no cleanliness, people tend to throw more waste and make it unhygienic. Not even realizing the fact that they are not only spreading diseases, but also contributing to the rising traffic problems in the city," he said.
Receiving a warm response for their efforts, the group has not only motivated other youngsters for a cleaner city, but has also taken pledge to continue such activities in future.
